The Pacific BioScapes Programme aims to assist implementation of the Protected Areas Network Policy Framework in the Federated States of Micronesia through supporting the operations of the Protected Areas Network at national and state levels. This will include management, community protected areas support, capacity building, human resources, planning and meetings of the technical committee and management team.
The Pacific BioScapes Programme is supporting the sustainable management of coastal ecosystems and species to support small-scale fisheries by local communities. To support these outcomes, a regional coral-reef fishery learning exchange and workshop to develop fisheries data analysis and species-based assessments will also take place. At the workshop participants from Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and Kiribati will discuss fisheries management issues and support the development of management guidelines.

Recent audit for the states of Chuuk and Yap identified mo9re than 20% of wastes landfill are organic waste. This is mainly due to the absence of a designated programme (collection services and processing station) and community awareness to effectively manage organic in waste in the two states.
FSM national overarching legislation, policies and strategic development plans that framework for solid waste management for the country. However, in practice State laws and regulations play a key role in regulating waste management.
The Federated States of Micronesia SoE examines major drivers of change to the environment that emerge from global, regional and national factors. It evaluates the main environmental pressures created by these drivers, and examine theri envieonmental impact. The SoE also gives actionable recommendations as a nation to improve the environmewnt for sustainable growth. The SoE Report is a useful refernce to guide natiomal development efforte and to improve livelihoods. Information in the SoE Report will help improve decision-making on the environment and in the allocation of resources to better protect the environment.
Pacific island countries are increasingly exposed to series of environmental hazards that threaten the health of the Pacific islands communities and its natural environment. Climate change tops the list of big issues across all island groups, while local environment battles are being waged over deforestation, land and sea mining, urban migration, infrastructure deelopment and population growth. These brings with its environmental issues such as waste pollution, invasive species, unsafe water, poor sanitation, air pollution, hazardous chemicals and occupational hazards which contributes to poor livelihood.
