Protected and conserved areas are vital for safeguarding our unique biodiversity - as well as underpinning culture and livelihoods. This report is the first comprehensive regional assessment of protected and conserved areas. The biodiversity and Protected Areas Management Programme (BIOPAMA) supported the preparation pf this report.

Étaient présents à la réunion des représentants de Nioué, de la République des Îles Marshall, des Îles Salomon, des Tokélaou, des Tonga, du Royaume-Uni et de Wallis-et-Futuna. L’Australie et le Samoa ont assisté à la réunion en tant qu’observateurs. La liste complète des participants figure en Annexe 1.
The Third Executive Board Meeting was held virtually on 8–9 September 2022 in Apia, Samoa.
Present at the meeting were representatives from Niue, Republic of Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, United Kingdom and Wallis and Futuna. Attending as Observers were Australia and Samoa. The full list of participants is attached as Annex 1.

Marine litter negatively affects the environment, people and coastal economies around the world. In the Pacific region, the problem is even more severe given countries’ reliance on healthy ocean ecosystems and services.

While some people might remember it for its Hollywood association, the small uninhabited islands has other claims to fame. In 2011 the island's Indigenous owners - the village of Yanuya and a consortium of partners led by the National Trust of Fiji and a local NGO, Maregeti Viti successfully removed invasive rats and goats from Monuriki to protect its critically endangered endemic Fijian crested iguana.
Pacific Island countries in the western and central Pacific region such as PNG Islands, Nauru, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Tokelau and northern Cook Islands are likely to experience below normal rainfall during this period, while islands in the northwest and southwest Pacific are likely to experience higher than normal rainfall. These countries include, but are not limited to, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, Niue, Palau and the Fed. States of Micronesia.
