The Solomon Islands are the northern group of a huge arc of islands delimiting the Coral Seas and is situated in the Western Pacific. The Main Group Archipelago, MGA, orientated northwest to southeast, stretching about 1700 km between Bougainville, at the eastern tip of Papua New Guinea (PNG) to the northern-most islands of Vanuatu. The central archipelago of islands lies between latitudes 5o S and 12o S and longitudes 152o E and 163o E.
