Abstract
The WMO/SPREP/United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (US NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) workshop on the year 2000 (Y2K) problem opened at the Heliconia Conference Room, Double Tree Hotel, Honolulu, Hawaii, at 8.00 am on 9 November 1998. Mr Penehuro Lefale, SPREP Representative, called the meeting into session. He welcomed the participants and noted the importance of the year 2000 problem and its potential impacts on National Meteorological Services (NMSs) in the Pacific region. He wished the participants a successful meeting and an enjoyable stay in Honolulu.
