The SPBCP, implemented in 1993 is now into its fifth year of operation. This, then was to be the final year of this 5-year programme. However, following recommendations from the Technical and Management Advisory Group and the Multipartite Review Meeting in 1997, theGlobal Environment Facility and the United Nations Development Programme have been requested to consider an extension to the Programme until existing resources run out. A formal decesion by the GEF and UNDP has not been made known to the Secretariat to date althrough it is expected that the extension as requested will be forthing.
