International Waters Project - Oceania
Abstract
The International Waters Project aims to strengthen the management and conservation of marine, coastal and freshwater resources in the Pacific islands region. It is financed through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) International Waters Programme, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and executed by the South Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) in conjunction with the governments of the 14 independent Pacific island countries. The initiative was designed as a 5-year phase of pilot activities, started in 2000, and was extended after 3 years to a planned completion date in 2006.
