General Notes
The protected natural areas of Latin America and the Caribbean are becoming increasingly popular vacations destinations with both international domestic travellers. Their growth in popularity is accompanied by an urgent need to generate funding and human resources to maintain the ecological intergrity of these areas. At the same time, park managers and conservatonists have come to reconize the importance of managing protected areas in ways that meet the needs of local rural populations. This provides a clear opportunity to link tourism and conservation for the benefit of both people and parks.
