Abstract
In October 1989, the South Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) was requested by the Government of Tonga, via the Department of Lands and Survey, to undertake a survey of the coral reefs of the Vava'u Group in northern Tonga. The general purpose of the survey was to describe the coral reefs of Vava'u and make recommendations regarding the management of coral harvesting. The coral reef survey was conducted from 20 January to 9 February 1990, with an interruption due to the near passage of Cyclone Ofa.
