GESAMP is an advisory body consisiting of specialised experts nominated by the sponsoring agencies (IMO,FAO,UNESCO,WMO,WHO,IAEA,UN,UNEP). Its pricipal task is to provide advice on marine environmental protection problems to the sponsoring agencies and to the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).|The report contains views expressed by members of GESAMP who act in their individual capacities; their views may not be necessarily correspond with those of the sponsoring agencies.
