The Pacific Islands Region is a globally significant area for marine turtles breeding and migration. The coastal populations of the Pacific Islands have exploited marine turtles for their meat, eggs, shell and oil for centuries. Cultures and traditions, which historically managed sustainable use and promoted ecological balance are degrading.
