The High Level Session provided an opportunity for high level representatives from government, the private sector and civil society to comment on the proposed Ten Key Actions to support the achievement of nature conservation in the Pacific.

The Sixth South Pacific Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas held in Palikir, Federated States of Micronesia, on 29 September – 3 October 1997, continued the series of nature conservation conferences held in New Zealand (1975), Australia (1979), Western Samoa (1985), Vanuatu (1989) and Tonga (1993).

The small economies and populations of the Pacific islands have very limited financial capacity, yet are stewards for an immense area of ocean and its associated global ecosystem services

Divided into 10 subtopics, this film is a compilation of independent topics with a common objective to address the state of the environment. These subtopics are; The Threatened Earth, The Greenhouse Effect, Our Special Wildlife, Forests, Cash Crops, Use of Pesticides, The logging of Paradise, Problems from Logging, Mining in Papua New Guinea, Conservation Areas, and lastly, Ways to protect our Wildlife. PNG being the case study, we are offered a tour of the special wildlife in Papua with it's exotic and rare species endemic to these islands such as the 'Paradise Kingfisher'. The effects of mining in Papua is also addressed with a case study of Panguna Mine.

The people of the Pacific rely heavily on the resources of the land and the sea for their social, cultural and economic well being. For thousands of years, they have lived in harmony with nature. Geographic and ecological isolation of the Pacific Islands have led to the evolution of unique species and communities of plants and animals, many of which are endemic to specific islands. The South Pacific Biodiversity Conservation Programme (SPBCP) offers an opportunity for an effective long term conservation of unique species, special, and diverse ecosystems, by establishing conservation areas on different islands. This video highlights the beauty of the natural heritage of the Pacific Islands people, which is now under conservation. Islands visited in this video are; Samoa, Fiji, Cook Islands, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Palau.

This Eco-Forestry video was made for the Sustainable Management Project with the theme; "The Forest Belongs to Every Generation : Look After It". It outlines steps that communities need to take in the areas of decision making for the sustainable use of their Forests. It also addresses steps communities need to consider in order to protect forests. In addition, it gives a description of the different types of timber trees found in the forest such as the white beech, pencil cedar, and choba.
