This book describes the 14 sites in Fiji which are of global importance for bird conservation. These important bird areas are priorities for conserving the natural heritage of Fiji for future generations. Fiji's rich natural heritage includes 11 threatened bird species and 27 endemic bird species which occur in no other country. This book updates the status and conservation needs of all of these special birds.

The small economies and populations of the Pacific islands have very limited financial capacity, yet are stewards for an immense area of ocean and its associated global ecosystem services

The Global Climate Change Alliance Plus (GCCA+) Scaling up Pacific Adaptation (SUPA) places people in the nine smaller Pacific Island countries and Fiji at the centre of climate change adaptation efforts as the project seeks to strengthen the sectors responsible for providing water, food, health, marine resources and coastal protection.

He stressed that this session was an opportunity to ensure that all delegates were up-to-date with the Project and its background. To set the scene for the workshop he reported on the Project development history. In summary, he drew attention to the signing of the grant and financing agreements on the 13 March 2002. He also noted that the SOPAC Project has been at least 3 to 4 years in development.

This report details a ten month scoping study conducted to assess the relative vulnerability of rural livelihoods across Pacific Island Countries (PICs) to climate change. The study focuses on East Timor (Timor-Leste) and 15 PICs (Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Fiji, Nauru, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu) (Fig. 1).
