The Vanuatu National Environment Policy and Implementation Plan 20162030 (NEPIP) is an overarching policy for the sustainable conservation, development and management of the environment of Vanuatu. It is the first of its kind since Vanuatu gained independence in 1980. The NEPIP aims to: 1) provide for the co-ordination of related activities; 2) promote the environmentally sound and safe management and conservation of the natural resources and environment of Vanuatu; and 3) outline the operational matters necessary to implement 1) and 2) above. There are several challenges and opportunities to be addressed. The NEPIP provides the opportunity for change. This policy will be implemented in pursuit of the National Sustainable Development Plan (NSDP), which is an overarching government policy document. The environment is one of the three pillars under the NSDP. The NEPIP links the NSDP and the various sectors under the environment pillar.
